History Museum of Armenia

The first museum and one of the most impressive ones of our historical country is the History Museum of Armenia, which was founded in 1919.

The museum presents the Christian culture of Armenia (4th-15th centuries) with the unique architectural, sculptural and ceramic finds, excavated from the cities of Dvin and Ani, from the fortress of Amberd. History Museum of Armenia owns an enormous and exceptional collection of bronze specimens of the 3rd-2ndmillennia BC, which belong to the world treasury of masterpieces.

One of the breathtaking museums of Armenia is Matenadaran – the Institute of Ancient Manuscripts, which is in the center of Yerevan.

The word "matenadaran" means "scriptorium" in English, a more accurate translation is "library of manuscripts."

It is the world's largest repository of Armenian manuscripts.

Visit the Institute of Ancient Manuscripts, which contains more than 20000 ancient manuscripts and more than 100 thousand ancient archival documents!

Sergei Parajanov Museum

Sergey Paradjanov was the author of several film-masterpieces which brought him world praise.

Parajanov’s contribution to the art of cinema is indescribable.

The museum of S. Parajanov was founded in 1988, after the first exhibition of his Artworks at the State Museum of Armenian Folk Art.

The basis of the museum collection constitutes 600 works of Parajanov - assemblages, flat and three-dimensional collages, drawings, dolls and film sketches, furniture, own things, which were transformed from Tbilisi to Yerevan during his lifetime. Today the number of subjects is 1500 units.

Armenian Genocide – painful and undeniable fact!

The word genocide was created by combining the Greek word ‘geno,’ for race or tribe and the Latin word ‘cide,’ for killing.

The extermination of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire and the surrounding regions during 1915-1923 is called the Armenian Genocide.

The Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Foundation manages the Museum-Institute, founded in 1995, the Memorial dedicated to the victims of 1915 Armenian Genocide, raised in 1967, and a surrounding 100 wooded hectares of Tstitsernakaberd Memorial Park. The place has become a symbol of the Armenian Genocide collective memory.

The Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Foundation is dedicated to preserving the memory and legacy of the Armenian Genocide by honouring 1,5 million Armenians who have perished during the horrible events at the beginning of the 20th century.

Aram Khachaturian Museum

Aram Khachaturian – composer, conductor, great son of Armenians!

Aram Khachaturian museum was established in 1978 to provide information about Aram Khachaturian to the public and to care and transfer to descendants his rich musical heritage.

The staff of the museum is engaged in replenishment of the collection with materials concerning A. Khachaturian’s life and work, in proper presentation of the documentary heritage, its careful research and representation to the public in most appropriate way

Martiros Saryan Museum

Martiros Saryan is one of the greatest painters of the 20th century, an outstanding colorist.

"Color is a genuine miracle", the painter exclaimed. "In combination with sunlight, it expresses the spirit of object's shape and the essence of universal existence".

Martiros Saryan's creative development covers the period of over 80 years. The Master's art is diverse and of different genres. He worked as a painter, graphic artist, created book illustrations, sketches for theatre sets, monumental panels. The total number of his works exceeds 4000.

The Saryan’s House-Museum’s collection was replenished mainly during 1967-2008. It contains Master’s paintings and graphic works from all periods of his creativity. The works have been acquired from the private owners and the artist himself. Many works have been also donated to the museum.

Modern Art Museum of Yerevan

The Modern Art Museum of Yerevan was founded in 1972. The Modern Art Museum of Yerevan was the first to specialize in contemporary and modern art in the Soviet Union. The first exposition consisted of works from the 1960s, created by artists who originated from Armenia and the Armenian Diaspora.

Recently, the museum has added works of many modern Armenian and international artists.

Erebuni Museum

Erebuni museum was founded in 1968. It is concerned with the history of the establishment of Yerevan. The museum building imitates the construction of an Urartian palace. The museum’s collection of the Erebuni Historical & Archaeological Culture-Preserve includes 11295 archeological objects relating to pre-Urartian, Urartian, Achaemenian, Hellenistic and early Armenian periods.

The Cafesjian Center for the Arts is dedicated to bringing the best of contemporary art to Armenia and presenting the best of Armenian culture to the world. The museum was founded in 2009 in Yerevan. It continues to exhibit unique works of modern and contemporary art and offers a diverse program of lectures, films, concerts, and numerous educational initiatives for adults and children.
